The Chicken Squad by Doreen Cronin
This is a spin-off of the J.J. Tully mysteries for older readers. In this first misadventure the chicks, Dirt, Sweetie, Poppy, and Sugar have to find out what is living behind the coop. This is not going to be the next Newbery winner, but if you are looking for a book to catch kids attention you have found it. |
Danny's Doodles by David Adler
This book was written by the same author as the Cam Jansen series. This story has the new kid in class, Calvin, convince Danny to carry around jelly beans in his pocket as a science experiment. This creates a friendship between Danny and Calvin this is a bit unique, but fun to read about. This would make a good read aloud book. |
Heidi Heckelbeck by Wanda Coven
Heidi is really not your ordinary eight year old, but instead is a witch. She must keep her powers hidden so she can live like any other kid, but she must also figure out how to be herself. With simplistic language and illustrations on almost every page this is a great first chapter book series for a beginning reader. |
